This Tokyo DisneySEA itinerary is based on my own experience staying off property and my own preferences – feel free to tweak and edit my recommendations to best fit your plans/interests. Note: It will not include “Happy 15” (where resort hotel guests can enter the park 15 minutes before official park opening) since I have never done it myself, and will not include EVERY attraction and show available.
That being said, I hope you still find this information helpful when planning your park day and feel free to let me know what you think! Here we go!
**If you’re coming from my Tokyo Disneyland Itinerary, “THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND” and “PREPARATION” sections will be very similar so feel free to skip to “MORNING”.
**I’ve added some information about Tokyo Disney Resort 40th Anniversary Priority Pass but will not explicitly mention using it in this post. If you see rides that qualify, definitely prioritize getting an anniversary pass for popular rides (ie. Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull) as soon as you enter the parks!
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
- Standby Pass: Gives you a return time to utilize at specific locations (think virtual queues) when there’s high traffic
- Includes select shops and restaurants, but currently unavailable for attractions until further notice
- Entry Request: This is the infamous lottery system of Tokyo Disney Resort where you can request specific character greets or showtimes for you and your party
- Shows:
- Big Band Beat: A Special Treat (Recommended)
- Jamboree Mickey! Let’s Dance!
- Shows:
- Disney Premier Access: Paid fastpasses (think individual Lightning Lane attractions) that can be purchased one at a time for attractions and/or shows (incl. parades) with a range of times to pick from
- Ranges from ¥1,500 to ¥2,500 ($11-$19)
- Attractions:
- Soaring: Fantastic Flight ¥2,000 ($15)

- Note: You can book another pass 120 minutes later or after the start time of your last pass, whichever is earlier
- Attractions in order of priority:
- Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull
- Raging Spirit
- Nemo & Friends SeaRider
- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
- Shows in order of priority:
- The Magic Lamp Theater
- Turtle Talk
PREPARATION
- Purchase tickets and reserve your park days via Tokyo Disney Resort directly or through third party sites such as Klook if you’re having payment issues with TDR
- I’ve personally used Klook since 2017 for Tokyo Disney tickets and never had an issue. You’re welcome to use my code “WEITOMAGIC” to save 5% off a minimum purchase of $50.
- Check for attraction closures
- Chris (aka TDR Explorer), one of my favorite TDR resources, has a great summary of all 2023 attraction closures for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySEA
- Download the official Tokyo Disney Resort app and take time to explore it so you know where to find things (park map, Standby Pass, Entry Request, Premier Access, etc)
- Print your tickets so they’re easier to scan at the park gates (especially if you didn’t buy from TDR directly) and onto your Tokyo Disney Resort app
- Go to Daiso and buy a foldable mat to sit on while you wait for the night-time shows (super common at TDR and they usually have a bunch of cute Disney designs)
- Eat breakfast!!
- On the way to Maihama station, stop by your favorite Japanese convenience store such as 7-Eleven, Family Mart, Lawson, or New Days for breakfast and other snacks for your park day
- There is also a New Days at Maihama station but it will be packed and busy
- My recommendations: salmon or tuna mayonnaise onigiri
MORNING
Good morning explorers! We’re off to find adventure at Tokyo DisneySEA! Whether it’s your first time or your millionth time, you want to get to the parks bright and early to beat the crowds. Trust me, they take it seriously here!
- Arrive at the parks at least one hour before park opening ( 2 hours on the weekends)
- As soon as you’re scanned at the gates, open your Tokyo Disney Resort app and book a Premier Access pass for Soaring: Fantastic Flight for a later time in the day (shoot for around 5pm)
- If you’re having trouble linking your park ticket to your app, head to Guest Relations at the very front of the park (where the globe is) and they can help you book Premier Access passes, as well as any lottery entries. And don’t worry about the language barrier! They have signs and digital translators on hand to help communicate
- Note: You have to wait ONE HOUR before booking your next Premier Access attraction
- Once you have your first Premier Access, start walking to Toy Story Mania! and enter Woody’s mouth (get in line lool) while you do your Entry Passes
- Try to pick a showtime that’s earlier in the day or mid-day
- My recommendation: Big Band Beat: A Special Treat
- If you are unable to get an entry request for the show of your choice, the first showtime is ALWAYS non-lottery and is first come, first serve
- Big Band Beat: A Special Treat (recommended) 11:30AM
- Jamboree Mickey! Let’s Dance! 11:10AM
- Note: First showtime is subject to change so please check the TDR app for the latest schedule!
- After Toy Story Mania!, we’re heading to Tower of Terror if it’s under 30-45min!
- If the queue is long, feel free to use this time to explore the area, grab a snack from New York Deli, or shop Duffy & Friends at McDuck’s! The American Waterfront also has a ton of photo spots!
- It’s showtime aka an hour before the show! Headover to the American Waterfront (exit the Toy Story area) to go queue for the first showing of Big Band Beat: A Special Treat at 11:30AM!!
- Before the show starts, you should be able to book your next Premier Access for Journey to the Center of the Earth and choose around 1-2PM
- Enjoy Big Band Beat: A Special Treat!
- Note the following will be enforced once you enter the theater:
- No video or photos allowed
- No eating or drinking
- All hats and ears must be taken off
- Note the following will be enforced once you enter the theater:
- At the end of the show (11:55AM), Mickey and friends usually have a greeting/mini boat show called Let’s Celebrate with Colors on the harbor
- Showtimes: 12PM, 3PM
- If you want the best viewing for this show, you want to be in the front of the park, facing the waters/volcano
- You can either stand and watch, or you can watch as you walk to Journey to the Center of the Earth
- It’s time to use your Journey to the Center of the Earth Premier Access
- If you were unable to get a time close to when the show ends, you can use this time to get an early lunch or meet characters at Waterfront Park
- Note: There are two paths to Journey: scenic (longer) vs. direct (shorter)
- Scenic: Grab some garlic shrimp popcorn (my favorite) then use the red bridge on the left so you enter and walk through Cape Cod (aka home of Duffy & Friends), then towards the stairs by Horizon Bay Restaurant/Bayside Takeout. This route will take you through some areas we might not get the chance to come back and visit so utilize this chance!
- Direct: Take the bridge on the right across from McDuck’s Department Store then through Fortress Exploration (we’ll come back to this) and directly to the ride
AFTERNOON
It’s mid-day and we’re gonna keep it going! Our afternoon is going to be pretty similar to our morning with attractions, exploration, and more!
- After Journey to the Center of the Earth, we’re going to stop by Nautilus Galley for a gyoza dog (think the filling of a dumpling in a bao bun) then visit my favorite place ever: Fortress Exploration
- The Leonardo Challenge is a walk-through attraction inside Fortress Exploration where you get a challenge map and it guides you to explore (think Tom Sawyer’s Island meets Leonardo de Vinci but 10x better) the area! This is what Tokyo DisneySEA’s theme is based upon so I highly recommend stopping by here!!
- The challenge map is yours to keep and will be embossed once you finish the challenge
- There are four different versions of the challenge map and you get ONE per party (be your own party if you want your own map haha)
- Note: The Leonardo Challenge is entirely in Japanese and closes at 4:30PM
- I will write a blog post soon that explains how to navigate the challenge without knowing Japanese
- There is also another paper map/explanation of the Society of Explorers and Adventures (English is available) that you can grab by one of the exits (on the wall heading towards the American Waterfront)
- The challenge map is yours to keep and will be embossed once you finish the challenge
- It’s lunchtime so we’re heading over to the beautiful Mermaid Lagoon, based off The Little Mermaid–get your cameras ready!
- This is technically a children’s area but I love eating and resting here because it’s AC’d and has tables/seating. The theme is super cute for fans of our favorite redheaded mermaid and don’t forget to explore her playground! You might find some princely treasures there!
- Lunch/snack recommendations
- Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen: Sausage and Bacon Pizza or Seafood Calzone
- Ice Cream Wagon: Pink Seashell Sea Salt Ice Cream Monaka or either Mickey Ice Bars
- Must explore: Ariel’s Playground (go through each room!)
- Back to the attractions as we make our way to Lost River Delta and Arabian Coast with the following recommendations
- Attractions
- Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull
- Raging Spirits
- Abu’s Bazaar (¥700 carnival game with guaranteed prizes that are a great and cheap souvenir)
- Sinbad’s Storybook Adventure
- Food/Snacks
- Curry popcorn
- Attractions
EVENING
We’re entering the final stretch but the day isn’t over yet! For the evening, our major focus is using our Premier Access for Soaring: Fantastic Flight and the newest night-time show, Believe! Sea of Dreams. Now is also a great opportunity to do last minute shopping or get on multiple rides while wait times are shorter!
- Hopefully by now, your return time for Soaring: Fantastic Flight is ready and you can now make your way to the ride
- Note: The queue is set-up like an actual flight museum and it is stunning! My favorite part is the pre-show that reminds me of my beloved wizard franchise (iykyk)
- After Soaring: Fantastic Flight, it’s time to find and secure your viewing spot for Believe! Sea of Dreams that starts at 7:30PM
- Pro-tip: Premier Access is only worth the cost if you want a prime viewing spot and are willing to get there 2-3 hours early. It only secures you access to the PA area but not an actual assigned spot. This means that you pay $$ but still need to get there very early and secure your place
- For recommended, free viewing spots with photos, check out this post from Kaiunjoshibu
- I personally would say another good spot if you don’t want to wait is on the bridges near the Venetian Gondolas
- Once the spot is secured, switch off with your party and use this time to get dinner and/or shop!
- Recommended: Zambini Brothers’ Ristorante
- Finally, end your night with last minute attractions and shopping!
- Recommended Attractions
- Whatever was listed before that hasn’t been done yet
- Venetian Gondolas
- Go to Aquatopia/Nemo & Friends SeaRider then take the Electric Railway to American Waterfront
- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (not my favorite but is unique to TDS)
- Recommended Attractions
ADDITIONAL TIPS
- If you’re going solo, you can still get your IG photos! Although it’s not common, Japanese people are very nice about helping you take photos—especially if you’re able to help them take one too! I usually offer to take photos of people who are trying to take a group selfie and in return, get a photo of myself as well. “Isshoni?” “Shashin o totte dekimasu ka?”
- Buy postcards and stamps at the beginning of the day so you can write them as you wait for rides/shows. You’ll be able to drop them off in a mailbox on your way out Mediterranean Harbor and TDR will put a special ink stamp on your postcard before sending them out for you
- The fireworks, if any, only last a few minutes so I wouldn’t recommend going to it late!
- If you have a lot of stuff or went shopping early, lockers are available at the front of the park to the right or left (before entering the Mediterranean Harbor)
- Some food places and snack carts close as early as 6PM! Keep an eye on your hunger while at the park—especially towards the end of the night!
- Shopping at the end of the night is doable but isn’t recommended. The shops in the Mediterranean Harbor get incredibly crowded (think shoulder to shoulder) so it’s hard to browse and navigate
- If you forgot a souvenir after exiting the park, you might have some luck at Bon Voyage on your way back to the train station (their version of World of Disney)
