DESCRIPTION FROM THE PUBLISHER:
After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.
While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn’t need glory or fame. She’s fine with being a “mere” ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she’s discovering just what’s really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.
Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?
MY REVIEW:
Abby Jimenez has me in an absolute CHOKEHOLD. One thing I’ve learned about her is that she’s a phenomenal storyteller. You can read her books, watch her TikToks, etc. and you’re immediately pulled into a world Jimenez built with her words. She’s also hilarious and knows the rom-com genre so well when it comes to writing. Part of Your World is no exception.
“Love follows you. It goes where you go. It doesn’t know about social divides or distance or common sense. It doesn’t even stop when the person you love dies. It does what it wants. Even if what you want is to not be in love.”
I don’t read contemporary romance as often as I’d like, but Part of Your World quickly became one of my favorite books to date. When I first started reading it, I could not put it down. I was obsessed with Alexis and Daniel’s relationship together: swoon-worthy romance, witty banter, and best of all, we got a baby goat in pajamas! What’s not to love? We get to watch these characters, who couldn’t be any more different, fall in love and be…well, absolutely perfect for each other. I loved where one fell short (ie. doesn’t know what to do when the power’s out or doesn’t know how to sell something they made for what it’s worth), the other steps in and helps them to reach their potential. Their love, support, and chemistry for each other is off the charts, and I ate up every second of it!!
“He turned me, and I looked up at him, completely helpless. But it was okay that I was helpless because he’d never hurt me like Neil did. He’d never do anything but what he does for all the people in his life. He’d be devoted to me and cherish me and take care of me.”
While this book is fun and heart-warming, Abby Jimenez also addresses some serious issues and shows us that sometimes, abuse isn’t always physical. I loved seeing Alexis regain her strength and confidence after standing up to her emotionally manipulative ex and confronting her parents whose love was very conditional. I also loved that Daniel is the one to help kickstart this change in her mindset and supports her every step of the way as she regains her independence. “Grace costs you nothing” as he would tell her, and I love that this phrase alone drove such an important message for the development of both characters. So fair warning, you will giggle and kick your feet at every lovey-dovey scene, but your heart will ache at every time Alexis and Daniel are fighting against the odds (and sometimes each other). But I promise you, it’s worth it in the end.
“It was like the universe had dipped a snow globe. Only the petals didn’t fall. They floated like dust motes. Flower fairies, twinkling in the moonlight.”
Part of Your World is the first book in Jimenez’s second series, and is nothing short of magical despite being a contemporary read. From the little town of Wakan to the Grant House, the places and people of this story give the feeling of “all is right in the world when they are together” and there’s something so special about that. This was not my first Abby Jimenez book, and it certainly won’t be my last. I highly recommend Part of Your World if you’re looking for a feel-good story about happiness, growth, and change for the better, while also having incredibly charming main characters and a romance so sweet you’ll be thinking about it for months. Please, please, please, read this book!
Stay Magical,
Eri
Ps. For new and returning Abby Jimenez readers, all her books are stand-alone stories but you’ll notice cameos of some characters in a very IYKYK kind-of-way. So, give the other books a chance if you haven’t already! Also, if you’re an audiobook listener, I recommend listening to them while reading because the narrators for ALL of her books knock it out of the park. They are amazing!!
